I was so pleasantly surprised to dig into this story and find myself unable to put it down. You never know what you will get with a self-published book. The author manages to avoid the tired fantasy cliches and come up with something fresh and entertaining. I enjoyed the subtle sense of humor evident in some of the writing - it made the characters approachable and real to me. Yet there is also is also plenty of action and scary stuff to round out the tale.

First in a series of three, I believe. I'm devouring the next book "The White Fox" right now.

Current version is tidier-Author

Thanks for the feedback, guys, it is truly appreciated. It's prompted me to do a rigorous edit pass for the typos and also sorted a couple of small inconsistencies in the plot. Hopefully the current version is more tidy. This is the power of new technologies in action. ...
Thanks for the feedback, guys, it is truly appreciated. It's prompted me to do a rigorous edit pass for the typos and also sorted a couple of small inconsistencies in the plot. Hopefully the current version is more tidy. This is the power of new technologies in action. Nice. (Since I have to rate my own book to get this comment in I'm putting the current average in, seems the fairest approach).

    A detailed and interesting story

With over a thousand pages you get a multifaceted story with lots of interestng twists and turns. You keep reading then realize only a few pages are left and its over. Such an original idea; a king on a crusade, a man returning from hell, dragons and magic just around the corner, new races of people and new kingdoms. It just failed to deliver a closing. Seemed like the author ran out of steam.

    Not really worth it

Some interesting character development, excessive head hopping, poor pacing, and some Deus Ex Machina.

    A yay/nay review

This book started slow but I stuck with it and was rewarded with a very enjoyable and well written storyline UNTIL the end which ended so abruptly I truly felt as if the author hit a deadline, or just got tired of writing, or decided that his ADD was kicking in and he needed to end the story quickly. Imagine writing The Lord of the Rings but suddenly using just three pages to end it? Very strange and very sad because until then, the writing was on the same par.

    Slow reading

While the story has an interesting plot, I found myself wshing the pace would pick up.

Horrible Ending! Slow Start, Interesting Middle, BAD Ending

The good beginning caught my interest but the s-l-o-w first part almost had me closing up shop. Middle was back to good but the ending was about as bad, as incomplete, as unsatisfying as any book. So many questions left unanswered. Lousy ending to a middling fair book took my 3 star rating down to 2.
