I really enjoyed Jody Wallace's Survival of the Fairest. I think she created a fascinating world with really unique and interesting characters and her writing was fluid and often hilarious. The novel is set in modern day Las Vegas and its convergence with the Fae Realm. Tali [a fairy princess] is a refreshingly naive and stubborn character - she thinks she knows [but she totally doesn't] everything about the human world and even goes so far as to classify herself as a "humanophile". It's this intense curiosity and obsession with anything human that leads her to break some rules and land herself in the middle of Las Vegas without a clue. Luckily for her, she runs into Jake [a magician] who thinks poor Tali is nuts but manages to fall in love with her anyway. The end result is a fast moving adventure and a lot of romantic sweetness and humor. The story is set up for Jody to do some sequels and I'd be eager to check them out. The only criticism I'd have is that the end is just a little too mashed together with a lot of "back and forth" with the plot - nonetheless, this was a very good read. Was this review helpful?
