Jessie Benedict is Vince Benedict's eldest daughter and sole heir to his nuts and bolts company. She's been the go-between for her family. Her father is a no nonsense mule headed stubborn man and only Jessie can lock horns with him. She fights the endless battle to turn her father into a decent father. She has this soft heart and cold steel determination when she feels she's in the right. Her younger sister, twelve year old Elizabeth is the main reason Jessie nags her father to death about attending science fairs and establishing a father daughter relationship with his youngest child that she herself never had. She's loving and free spirited but above all she's loyal to family. Sam Hatchard is a carbon copy of her father - workaholic and all about 'business' she's attracted to him, but she has seen first hand what life is like tied to a man who works around the clock, dismissing family for the cold comforts of business and she is determined to NOT follow in 'the moms' footsteps.

Hatchard is an interesting hero, he's charming when he puts some effort into it. But I fell in love with his dry sense of humor. He gave Jessie a glimpse into a rough man who really needed her. Jayne Ann Krentz throws in some mystery solving, fortune tellers, suspense and a dynamic look at a loyal yet disfuctional family life and I was hooked. -

Not Bad
This is the first book I've read by Jayne Ann Krentz. It was okay. I thought the characters were a bit wacky, but overall it was not a bad book. I would read something else by her.
