A gem of American Children's Historical Fiction
Meigs's portrayal of the birth of logging in America is very well-written and enjoyable. Her main character is a young man of such tenacity and courage that each reader will wish to follow in his steps. The adventures are fresh and captivating, and the characters are well-rounded and realistic. True to Meigs's style, she presents some of the deeper experiences of life in ways that children can process, and her conclusions are ones that adults can benefit from, too. I surely did! Swift Rivers is a book that I would recommend for readers of all ages. It truly is a timeless classic of the American indomitable spirit!
