    more from this reviewer

    Not Stirling's best work.

Firstly, I am a HUGE fan of S.M. Stirling's Novels of The Change. From "Dies the Fire" on down to "The Sword of The Lady", I have thoroughly enjoyed all six books, and have re-read all of them at least three times.

This new series, however, leaves a lot to be desired. I bought the book based solely upon seeing Stirling's name on the cover. It's about vampires; overdone, of late, but I can still get in to a good vampire story. This is not a good vampire story. The characters are very thin, the reader is never really given a reason to care about any of them, and the plot sort of trudges along. It really feels as though Stirling is just going through the motions, as though his publisher said, "Crank out another book, it doesn't have to be good."

There is simply nothing special about this book, and that is sad to say.

    Pretty good read

Definitely fast paced and love the eroticism and intrigue. Definitely a page turner.

    Major Disappointment

I've been a big fan of Mr. Stirling for many years. Up 'till now I'd give his books 4 and 5 star ratings. I only finished the book out of pure stubbornness, hoping it would get better, and skimming quickly through most of it. He has jumped onto the "oh dear,I'm in love with a vampire" nonsense bandwagon. Page after endless page of sado-masochist drivel and pop psychology angst. It quickly became very boring. So, if you are expecting one of his typically exciting action novels--don't buy this book. I'll skip the rest of the series.

    VampirIIIICCKY!!

Its good, its Stirling after all, he can't really write a bad book. Having said that, this was not my Genre, but I read it cause of Stirling's name on it, and it freaked me out more than the Emberverse books.

As the previous reviewer said, those are a bloody masterpiece (more blood even than in this one). Heavy on the Sex side and S&M with vampire overtones, NOT NOT NOT Sparkly vampires at all, whew boy no. These really do look at humans as food/play. As in cat with mouse, add more evil.

A lot of turns, some interesting stuff, and I'll pass on the rest of this series, like I said, not my genre. For all that it's not, it's still a good book. I do have to agree, it did feel a bit rushed.
