Lily Carlyle died while trying to exact revenge against her teenage sister's stalker and rapist. Unfortunately for Lily, regardless of how noble her cause for retribution, her intent does not dismiss the fact that she had murder in her heart. While Lily was alive, she was a small time hustler and thief. She did whatever it took to put food on the table for her family. Luckily for Lily, shortly after her death, she was given an opportunity for redemption against her past sins. Her choice, become a demon hunter and fight for the side of good or have a nice trip back to your descent into hell. Nothing is as it seems in this story. I was so intrigue by the thought of demons having the capability of repelling their true nature and gravitating towards light, and in reverse, humans who are not naturally evil (well most of us), rebelling against their nature towards good and being easily led astray by evil. The twists and turns in this book kept my interest thoroughly peaked. There were plenty of fierce action scenes and shocking revelations. By the end of the book I was so completely blown away, I couldn't put it down. I've never read anything from this author before and while I was aware of the context of the story before I read it, I still didn't particularly care for this books affirmation of the Christianity version of god. I don't usually read books that affirm any one particular religion; however, regardless of the religious aspect of this book I enjoyed it immensely. I highly recommend this book to fellow dark urban fantasy readers and look forward to the next book Torn.

GREAT!

i just got done reading this book and i thought it was amazing! i also met the author this weekend and it was an honor to hear Julie Kenner talk and discuss her views on writing. i do advise this book only to be read if you are at a maturity level. young adult and above. this is great just to escape into and you really connect with the characters. all there is left to say is "Well done, Julie Kenner!" :) and i cannot wait to read her other books.

Great New Series from Julie Kenner!

Great plot and smart, witty writing. I really liked the main heroine, Lily. She was a sarcastic kick ass character!

Don't you hate a book that doesn't have an endig?

This series should be called chronice. Not chronicles! When I finish a book I want there to be some sort of a concludion rathet rhsn feeling like I lost tbe book in an airport. Plus in tbe teaser chapter for the second "book" the main character's personality seems to have slipped back to that of the beginning of the first "book", the person that she had grown into has disappeared. The second *book* is out in psperback, but i am not going to read it .

Monstrous Lucas Johnson viciously attacks Rose. Bad to the bone twenty-six year old Lily Carlyle seeks out her younger sister's molester, but Lucas kills her instead. An angel gives the dead Lily a second chance at righting all the wrongs she committed.

Soon afterward, Lily Carlyle reawakens inside the body of Boston bartender-waitress Alice Purdue. Lily still wants to go after Lucas and wonders what happened to Alice. However, her heavenly assignment is preventing a demon horde from opening the last of nine gates from hell. She is ready to die again, but is confused by her attraction to Deacon Camphire, who saved her second life, but whose soul seems filled with absolute darkness and no light.

Although somewhat similar in tone to the superhero coming back from the grave for a chance at redemption by simply saving the world, fans of dark urban fantasies will enjoy the first Blood Lily Chronicle. Lily is an interesting protagonist who was a thief until she failed at vengeance but in her second chance she still craves retribution although she has bigger monsters to fight. Deacon is the enigmatic champion rescuing her at her darkest moments, but fans will wonder is he a hero or a future villain as the book is still out on him. Julie Kenner leaves her lighthearted suburban soccer mom resting in goal while turning to a grave thriller starring a different personality demon assassin heroine.
