Highly Recommended 2nd in series of historical fiction with woman protagonist
I enjoyed all 3 books about Makepeace, an American who has an unlikely romance and marriage with a rich, titled Englishman and a second marriage with an inventive Welsh (I think)who becomes rich. Diana Norman, who also wrote as Ariana Franklin ("Mistress of Death" books) is a wonderful historical writer. While you are reading a book rich in character development and setting detail you are absorbing information about the period. Norman is interested in women's rights but does not preach, just shows how women were treated at that time. Lots of detailed characters who move the story along and a satisfying ending for Makepeace.
If you liked her Mistress of Death books, you will like this, or the Ruth Downey books about Roman England.
