It is very rare for me to love a short story but this one ticked all the boxes!
The problem I have with short stories is when it attempts to cover so much ground over a small number of pages. Tales from a Tiny Thai Table is a prequel to the novel Beyond Parallel. This novella is just over 40 pages. It is a snap shot from the night before the main book. It may only cover a few hours in the lives of Clark, Sam, Alex and Bella but it contained so much detail and background of these characters that those 40 or so pages were rich with content.
It sets the scene for the morning after. These four travellers contemplate their journeys thus far and where they want to be in life. Do they continue travelling and search for that something "more"? Or face facts and return home? I found it to be insightful and entertaining.
If you plan to read Beyond Parallel then I recommend this prequel. It was short, sweet and well written.
