    A reviewer

I first read 'Tarzan of the Apes' when I was 10 years old and occasionally still pull it out to re-read 44 years later. One of life's little pleasures! It is a story of noble character & great adventure. So different than the movie versions. Give it a try!

    I Also Recommend:

    The Original Classic

Tarzan of the Apes is a seminal work-- not only the first book (and origin) of Tarzan, but the first modern mythic fiction superhero that would not only lay the groundwork for the fantasy pulps but the comic book superhero genre. Tarzan is the original modern superman. One of my top favorite books, right up there with King Kull.

Here you have the nicest paperback edition of the book ever done, annotated with several pages of notes, and an introduction, and most important, not seen in this outdated photo, is the new Frank Frazetta cover the book now has on its recent printing.

    Highly recommended!

    The synopsis is all wrong!

This is NOT the seventh book in the Tarzan series: it is the first. It is an amazing tale of man versus nature, of how circumstances dictate much of what becomes of us. Two English aristocrats, Lord and Lady Greystoke, are marooned on the west coast of Africa by a band of ne'er do wells. Thing go poorly for the pair but their orphan son is adopted by Kala, a great ape. The rest is the story of Tarzan's coming of age and his growth to manhood.

    The original!

If you have any interest in Tarzan and have never read the original, then you owe it to yourself to read "Tarzan of the Apes". The LoA edition is the best alternative to tracking down a first edition. My only regret is that it only tells the first half of the Tarzan story. In a just world, the LoA will publish the second half ("The Return of Tarzan") in due course.

    Hysterical

This book is so ridiculously racist that I could not just keep it to myself, I had to share with all of my friends. The writing is similar to trashy, pulp stories. It was a guilty pleasure that I could not put down till I finished.

    Surprisingly Good!

I first saw Disney's animated Tarzan movie and decided that if that was good, I might as well read the actual book. I was certaintly not disappointed! This book was so much better than I thought it would be! It was suspenseful and action-packed, it was NEVER boring. Recommended for all.

    Excellent Book

Without a dought, the best 'Tarzan' book there is. This is THE story of Tarzan and the only book in the series that you should read.
