Interviews about tattoos with people who don't have any.
I bought this book on impulse without really looking through it. I think I was intrigued by the title. After having this book home for an hour, I jumped right back in my car and returned it. These were all 'stick-on' tattoos designed by people who didn't have any of their own. Then to top it, they interviewed these people on what they felt the significance if tattooing was within our culture. I can't imagine the lengths you would have to go to in order to convince a publisher that this book was a good idea. I haven't used this word since 8th grade, but this book was written by a bunch of...posers. Ouch.

Many of the the designs in this book are presented as 'stickers on skin' and may work for temporary tattoos but would fall apart in living tissue. (i.e. 14 point font computer lettering, which would be unreadable in less than a year.) Most of the tattoos in this book would look like mud with a year and require either lazer removal or a cover-up tattoo to fix them, or erase them. I was also not impressed with any of the design concepts. I am a tattooer by trade and I have a B.A. in Fine Arts and Art History and I honestly cannot recommend this book to anyone. I'm sure these graphic designers are great at what they do, but they are not tattooers and clearly do not understand the craft of tattooing. I encourage readers to visit reputable shops and look at portfolios to select tattooers to work with rather than buying this book. Talk to the tattooers about your design and listen to what they have to say. You'll get the best tattoos that way. -A tattooer who just wants to help.

This book was not at all what the description said. There were interviews with people most of whom did not have tattoos. And then most of the designs were that of old school video game characters. Terrible. I was so disappointed when I got this book.

Very Modern Answer For Tattoo Designs
If you are looking for vintage or 'tattoo' designs this may not be the book for you. The graphics are very modern and bright definately influenced by asian pop art and technology. I enjoyed looking and thinking about the art of tattoo with a new light and vision. Even if visual art or design is of interest to you, I would recommend giving it a gander.
