Texas Hold ‘Em is the first in an ongoing series called Smokin’ ACES. We begin with the team leader, Timothy Santos’s story. He has come back home in undercover operation to bring down a Mexican cartel drug lord as well as find out what happened to his informant who was on the inside. He stumbles on to is former lover, the sheriff of the town, Rose Renwick, pinned down by gunfire in a remote location. He tries to explain what is going on, but Rose isn’t believing him.
Rose Renwick feels her former lover only cares about one thing, catching the bad guy by any means possible. When she discovers he is using her black sheep mother, things go from the frying pan in to the fire. The trail leads over the border to Mexico where Rose discovers her mother and his informant are one and the same.
I have to say, I’m not sure I would have given Timothy nearly as much trust as Rose does, even hesitatingly. For a while his lies to her were compounding and I was doubting they would get together but the author managed to believably bring Timothy around to some self-discovery. Texas Hold ‘Em is heavier on the suspense side than the romance side, but that’s the way I like it. I enjoy a lot of action in my romantic suspenses. I eagerly look forward to the sequel, Follow the Cowboy coming in November.

Texas Hold 'Em is an action packed romantic suspense that is will keep you turning the pages in anticipation of what is going to happen next. I don't read a lot of romantic suspense, which is something I am going to have to remedy, because I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot is enthralling, the characters are fantastic, and the romance is hot. Timothy Santos is a Texas Ranger who is sexy as sin. He's always been a badass, but now that he is undercover, he's a dangerous one that oozes with hotness. He and his team have been undercover as a motorcycle gang, and their case has brought them to the county of Rio Texas, where Rose Renwick, his former lover, is sheriff. Rose is presence all her own and force to reckoned with in her own right, something Santos knows oh too well. Circumstances force them to work together again and they soon discover that that burning passion, chemistry, and feelings they once had are still there. Will the lies, secrets from the past, and the danger situation they currently find themselves in bring them back together or drive them further apart? Was this review helpful? Texas Hold 'Em is a thrilling, romantic, and suspense story that will grab your attention from beginning to end. If you love romantic suspense, then you will most certainly want to check this out. If you haven't read this type of story in a while or have never read romantic suspense, then Texas Hold 'Em is a great book to wet your appetite or rekindle your love for this genre. This is my first book by Kay David and I am most definitely looking forward to reading more from this author.

I really liked this book about undercover Texas Rangers and what they go through to try and catch the bad guys. Santos was such an intriguing man, trying to control everything when nothing around him is controllable. On top of all his work related troubles he also had to deal with working with his ex-lover, who he still loves. Rose was a tough lady, of course she'd have to be being a sheriff in a border town. She was also perfect rot Santos. The action was great and fast paced and definitely kept me glued to the pages (I read it in one sitting). I can't wait to read more about the ACES team and learn more about each of them. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Timothy Santos is a Texas Ranger who is deep under cover with his team disguised as a motorcycle gang trying to bring down the head of a rather large drug operation that comes across the boarder from Mexico. When his informant inside goes quiet he has to bring in the local law for help, that could be a problem since the sheriff is his ex-girlfriend.
Why did Santos have to come back into her life was the first thing Rose Renwick thinks when she is rescued by him. Rose was finally moving on and putting Santos behind her and now he is back asking for her help to find his informant before it is to late.
Texas Hold 'Em is equal parts suspense novel and romance. Ms David includes some pretty gripping and sometimes horrifying scenes in her book to really give you a feel for what Santos and Rose are up against with the drug cartels and the very sick people who run them, at the same time we have a second chance romance with both the hero and the heroine being pretty tough.
I enjoyed the story and when reading it with an eye to there will be more books in the series then some of the sub-plots that are born and go no where make much more sense. Being a pretty big mystery buff I figured out Santos deep dark secret early but it is well played through the book. My biggest issue was that the story at times seemed a little choppy but as I said over all it was a fun read with quite the roller coaster of emotions and levels of excitement.

Hot Biker undercover agent and one small time Sheriff and the heat and action explode off the page. Timothy Santos is undercover as part of the Smoking ACES biker gang and they’re investigating a drug cartel right in Sheriff Rose Renwick’s town. Throw in the fact that Santos and Rose have a past and this story sizzles. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
There were so many twist and turns in this story that I was on my edge of my seat. Every time Rose and Santos got together the chemistry practically jumped off the page. They have this depth of character and are the type of character I love to watch fall in love, or reconnect in this case.
This was a strong start to a new series, with some threads left unanswered for the next in the series. I look forward to reading more. This story has it all suspense, mystery and romance.

I give Kay David's Texas Hold 'Em 4 1/2 stars! There is just something heart-stoppingly wonderful about a bad boy who wants to save the world, but you never really know if he's truly the good guy he's supposed to secretly be or not. Motorcycles, drug cartel, kidnapping, death, and everyone caught in between really gets the heart rate going and it doesn't stop until the end.Was this review helpful? You can't help but to lust after and turn away from undercover agent Timothy Santos who comes crashing back into Sheriff Rose Renwick's life. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't use to be completely in love, creating fireworks like no one has ever seen before in bed, and ending their relationship on bitter, resentful terms. But Santos needs her help. Never mind the secrets he continues to hide from Rose, there is a cartel that needs to be brought down.
As people go missing, others die horrifying deaths, emotions and tensions rise, Santos and Rose find themselves at odds that could cost them their lives.
Why not a 5? Well, the voices of conversation change a little too drastically for me in the end to make it fit with the rest of the story.
Kay's writing really puts you into the environment of West Texas and the Mexican border, tasting the dust and heat in your mouth, feeling the ferocious vibrations of Harley's, and the grip of terror the drug cartel creates.* This is my shiniest to goodness, straight from the heart review!*

A smokin¿ hot biker, a Sheriff in the middle of a drug cartel in
A smokin’ hot biker, a Sheriff in the middle of a drug cartel invasion spurred me into reading this book and believe me I was not disappointed one bit.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
Timothy Santos is working undercover as a member of the Smokin’ ACES (the Ammunition, Contraband, and Explosive Suppression team) biker gang looking for a drug cartel leader “El Brujo”. Only before we go into detail about his assignment lets go back 2 years when he was in the arms of the person he loved. Santos really loved her but he was protecting her from a person that she loved more than him, her mother, Gloria. He needed to get Rose away from her mother because she was following the wrong path. Santos only wanted the best for her but they went their separated ways, but he never forgot.
Rose Renwick is the Sheriff for a small town in Texas and her life was about to get turned upside down. When she moved from San Antonio to her home town she was trying to find her mother. When she arrived her grandfather had just stepped down from being the Sheriff in Rio County so she stepped in. Rose could not get over the betrayal of Santos, how could he want for her to turn her back on her mother after what they went through. Rose and Gloria had a secret a secret that know one knew about and the day that someone found out she would not be looked at the same, even more now that Rose was the Sheriff a person that should uphold the law.
Santos has been keeping an eye on Rose watching trying to see if he could see the person he has been looking for. Only he hasn’t been able to find any clues on where her mother could be. He knew that time was running out they had not heard from his CI, the person deep undercover in the drug cartel with “El Brujo”, Pablo Ortega. It seemed that he wanted to invade Rose’s town and she had no idea what is about to happen. When Rose is held up by gun point Santos comes to the rescue and Rose is not happy to see him. Who could fault her? Santos is trying to get Rose to understand that she is in danger but she will not listen to him.
When Rose is set up and she is shot at she knows that maybe Santos is telling the truth. Only that she still is hesitant but her grandfather reminds her that she needs to hold up the law and if her mother has her hands in what is going on she needs to do something about it, she is the Sheriff. Every time she is near Santos all those feelings come tumbling down and when they find each other with their lips locked the desire is still there. Only she needs to remember she betrayed him and she believes that he cheated on her and also he is looking for her mother. So they strike a deal, they go find his CI and her mother but before Gloria gets arrested Rose will get the opportunity to speak with her. So guess where they are going, Mexico here they come. They both still have deep feelings for each other but will the hurt be too much to not move on and see if maybe starting again could be done. Will Rose finally see that Santos would do anything for her even go against the law? Will Santos finally see that he sees everything only as black and white only thinks about his goal the mission and nothing else? Only when Rose finally learns the truth the pain she is going to feel at being lied at again will she be able to over come that and have Santos by her side?
What can I say other than this book is awesome, suspenseful, and full of twists and turns that will have you reading this book from beginning to end. The pace of the events as they unfold is perfect. I love stories that surround situations that are happening all around us and the people that fight against it. I do have to say that what detail it has hinting to the murders these cartels do are cold hearted and it leaves a person frighten to death that maybe something like that could happen to a loved one or even to themselves. The characters are well written along with the detail of the terrain of Texas. Now being born in Texas you get it grilled into your head that you steer clear of the black and white State Trooper cars because they are mean troopers. The chemistry that Rose and Santos share is like thinking of a full electrical current that could burn up a room. The love scenes are smoking hot but are also sensual and sweet. I will say that Book 1 of ACES has left some questions unanswered but I’m hoping that Book 2 Follow the Cowboy featuring Kingston Landry coming November 2013 will answer those questions. I can’t wait
If you love suspense and mystery entangled with romance Texas Hold’em is for you. Pick up this book today and start the journey of Santos and Rose’s reencounter and the fight against a drug cartel.

Where we have an elite squad of rangers masquerading as a biker gang known as the Smokin' Aces. Who doesn't like elite squads? Anyways, Timothy Santos is in search of an evil drug cartel leader. Which leads him to his former lover, Rose Renwick.
All right, that is the most simple form of a sum up. Ok, I like the story. It was pretty good, and I must say the stories danger did build as I continue reading. Which is important since, it's suppose to be suspenseful.
I did like the idea of the elite group of rangers trying to take down an evil drug cartel. I did like how the author was able to use the drug cartel situation get to former lovers back together. Granted they weren't able to catch the leader yet, which gives readers to look forward to next book.
So, here is the bottom line: Overall, a decent read. Yes, once you start reading you will want to know what will happen next, and yes you will have to wait. You do get lovers reunited, who were meant to be. So, you love suspenseful books with biker dudes, you might want to checkout Texas Hold 'Em.

Texas Hold 'Em by Kay David is the story of officer Timothy Santos who has gone undercover with his task force posing as a motorcycle gang. Santos and crew are tasked with bringing down a Mexican drug cartel either with or without the help of his one time love, local sheriff Rose Renwick.
This is the first book in the new Smokin' ACES series and there was definitely plenty of action to go around! It was a fast paced, and interesting story that had you rooting for the characters from the get go. My only complaint is that I wish the author had fleshed out some of the other members of Santos' task force, as well as the the sheriff's deputy, Kingston Landry.
If you're looking for a quick, light read featuring Texas bad boys and romance then this is the book for you!
Note: I received my e-book copy from the publisher with the promise for an honest review.

I don't normally read a lot of romantic suspense. Don't get me
I don't normally read a lot of romantic suspense. Don't get me wrong this book did feature a drop dead sexy hero which is always a perk. This book begins after the two main characters Rose and Santos have already had a relationship and aren't exactly on speaking terms. I didn't feel like their first break up was ever truly explained. Probably because this book, to me, was focused more on the suspense than the romance which is fine if you like suspense. The suspense element was all played out but the romance side left with me a lot of questions. Overall I did like the book and will probably read the next book in the series. I'm not sure who/what it's about. Will it answer my questions or will be completely about someone else? Guess I'll have to wait and see.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
