Just the ramblings of a quilter

I was hoping for some quilt pictures, instructions, patterns, etc. This book is apparently just supposed to be humorous. Quilt books are expensive enough. Don't spend your money on one that doesn't even offer instructions or patterns. As far as the humor goes, if you just read her nine principles that are listed on the book's explanation page here on Barnes and Noble, you'll have the gist of the whole book.

    Don't take quilting too seriously. . .

especially if you are learning! A nice tongue-in-cheek commentary that all quilts must be perfect. As a newbie myself, I found the book great inspiration to not take myself, or the craft, so seriously.

My beginning quilting instructor told our beginner class many times: "Finished is better than perfect!"

I would just add to that. . . "It can't hurt to strive for perfection. . just don't let it kill your enthusiasm!"

hilarious for any artist or craftsperson

Even though I don't quilt (I've tried many times), this book speaks to me as a knitter, spinner, weaver. It gives us permission to do whatever we love, however we love it. It also delights in the use and touching of art objects. And her theory about the absurdity of color theory is priceless. I laughed aloud at every other sentence, sent it to my mother, and showed it to every person I know.

    Thoughtful and Funny

This book spoke to my heart. It is funny, inspirational, strange and wonderful. I have enjoyed Lisa Boyer's column in Quilting Today magazine for years; I'm happy to see that she wrote a book. Her humor and insight into the world of quilting is awesome. I bought this book for all of my friends and they ended up buying it for all of their friends. We like it because she writes about the way real people quilt, and urges us to quilt for all of the right reasons.
