Great entertaining book, with a good message also

Very much enjoyed this book. I could not imagine having to lose 175 pounds! But she did it gradually, with both gains and losses along the way. Very honest. Parts of it sad - I really can't imagine being that large, and feeling so out of touch. But parts very funny and triumphant, too. I loved that it was true, and that she met her husband BEFORE she lost all the weight she wanted to. Also really liked her comments about her (then) boyfriend not putting so much importance on food, like she did. He had lost some weight before he met her, and didn't treat it like it was such a big deal. And very interesting that her book grew out of her blog.

    Cute Read

The book was a cute read, although I didn't really fall in love with it. It's the same cliche story: Girl is fat. Girls loses weight. Girl finds love. Girl realizes that she just needed to believe in herself. If only it were that easy! I felt some parts of the book went on and on, but I was mostly engaged in the story and wanted to see how it ended.

    Accurate and helpful!

I gave this to my step daughter who just completed bariatric surgery and she is finding it extremely accurate and helpful in regards to managing weight loss...besides being a very funny book.

    Thoroughly entertaining!

This was a very enjoyable read. I identified with portions of it and was inspired by it, too as I take on my own weight loss journey. Shauna reminds us there is no quick fix, life is meant to be savored (with experiences), and a healthy dose of humor can carry the day!

    Good Read

This was an "easy read" with some laughs & tears along the way. I do think that if you know what it feels like to be obese at least once in your life then it is easy to relate to this novel. I have and would recommend it to friends.

    Extremely witty and brutally honest!

Loved this book! I couldn't put it down. Shauna is very funny and honest. I could relate to her with every turn of the page.

    I Also Recommend:

    An uplifting, endearing journey

I wasn't a "Dietgirl" reader (obsessive blog reading has come late to me) so I didn't encounter Aussie Shauna's alter-ego until recently when her book was featured with other diet/weight-loss memoirs. "The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl" is essentially a collection of Dietgirl blog posts, in chronological order, as Shauna charts her journey back into life through her ongoing struggle with depression and obesity. Shauna writes quite well - she does have a journalism degree - and I found it very easy to empathize with Shauna as she chronicles her attempts to make permanent lifestyle changes and win the battle of the scales. She's got a lot of gumption - even if her sister Rhiannon had to kick her in the backside occasionally - and drive so it was nice to see that all her hard work paid off in the end. At the bottom right corner of the book is a little flip-book cartoon of "Dietgirl" - "Dietgirl" changes as Shauna does, blasting off at the end of the book.

    Unlikely Superhero!

I buy and read memoirs of overweight people fighting the bulge for inspiration at the gym and Shauna Reid's story is a classic. She speaks to all overweight women of the world that have ridden the diet rollercoaster all their lives. Shauna's perception of her body throughout her 'lard busting' years is dead on and relatable. The author and the book are special in that they realistically and honestly inspire others in the same situation to believe anything is possible in the battle of the bulge with hard work and determination.
