    A so-so read.

    My Advanced Placement United States History class has to read this book as part of the curriculum. While it is a good discussion piece there, I can¿t imagine talking about it anywhere other than in a classroom. Frankly, I found it to be quite boring. While APT did have its moments here and there, I (and a dozen other people in my class) was literally falling asleep on the pages. Moreover, Hofstadter seems particularly biased on everything he writes about. Although every book has at least some bias, even if only the smallest amount, I think Hofstadter went a little too personal with APT.

    Excellent articles, brilliant analysis

    Extremely well-written, APT is both engaging and informative. Profiles of the key personalities are linked to events as Hofstadter provides both anecdotal and general histories of the country's pivotal eras. Verily the best general US history book for scholars and history buffs alike, as well as a classic in its own right. A good review for the AP exam, as well.

    Great Reading

    My sixth grade teacher had us all read this excellent and informative work. The breadth and depth of the American experience is adequately covered here. There are a few drawbacks, notably Hofstander's literary bias on what the 'political tradition' of America is. Still, a great work

    Really enjoyed it...

    My 8th grade history teacher told me to read APT and I did over the summer... It has so much information that I will have to go back and read the whole book again (as well as take notes.) I have learned alot from the book and I believe it to be excellent and well written.

    The best book ever

    this book is very insightful about many opinions made during the American upbringing. As a sophomore in high school, my teacher made us ready many lengthy books like this from Boorstin and Beard. I think with this book you can present many essay debates and class discussions
