    A GREAT Guide!!!

    I know Dr. Walford has written many other books on caloric restriction, optimal nutrition, but i believe this is THE MOST beneficial one to anyone interested in adopting the plan. The first half of the book explains the different aspects of the plan, giving its expected benefits toward diseases like heart disease and cancer, as well as presenting other changes that one should expect such as lowered cholesterol, etc. As a med student, his presentation on fats, carbs, and protein and how they should be incorporated into the diet coincides perfectly with everything i have ever learned. The second half of the book includes a GREAT collection of recipes and a sample meal plan. There is also a clear explanation of HOW to start the plan whether or not you want to do caloric restriction as well as optimal nutrition, or just optimal nutrition alone. And you don't have to be super calorie careful all the time! As long as tis in moderation, LIVE A LITTLE and treat yourself to dinner out!<BR/><BR/>Remember that this is not meant to be a diet, but a lifestyle change. Many who are against the plan look at how skinny and sickly some of its followers look, and how Dr. Walford himself died at 79. But he states CLEARLY in this book that we are not meant to go to extremes as some people have done, and that you should check your weight loss and not go under a certain point-- the book describes how each individual can determine that particular point, as it is not the same for everyone. So it is really a shame that some people abuse the plan and ruin its image. Many say that they dont want to live their lives hungry all the time, and you're not supposed to! Sure you will be hungry for a short time, as your body adjusts, but after that, you will not only realize that you can and will survive HEALTHILY on less calories, but that you will no longer CRAVE fatty food. Anyone who is still hungry and well into the plan, or losing too much weight continuously, is not following it correctly. This book goes over ALL these points, which is what i LOVE about it! It ALSO goes over the fact that there simply has not been enough time to study the plan's effects on human life span, for obvious reasons... and DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED by the fact that the good doctor died at 79 himself! He clearly describes how some of the lab mice experimented on still obtained certain diseases, but most obtained them much later in life than expected. So who is to say that Dr. Walford wasnt meant to get his disease twenty years earlier! <BR/><BR/>For anyone who is even skeptical, i HIGHLY recommend reading this book. After reading it through and through, i can honestly say i have NO DOUBT that adopting this lifestyle will make you look and feel healthier and happier! Once you give it a try, you will never go back!
