the first two books of this trilogy were great. this finale falls completely on its face.
i think the problem is that myranda carries the story. even though there are other very good characters, she is the one you really care about. when she 'leaves' towards the end of the second volume, the story carries on fill into the third volume. when she 'returns', for some reason she has become just another character along on a standard plot-line. even though there are good characters that have developed within the story-line, with interactions and relationships growing and changing, somehow it is all flat.
myranda is needed to spark it up and keep the reader on her/his toes. the plot needs problems or situations that keep one guessing. the first two volumes were rife with this. full of surprises, twists, and interactions -- plus a wonderful character in myranda. it is all the more disappointing when such a wonderful start just peters out.
