This book really frustrated me.  The subject matter and history

This book really frustrated me.  The subject matter and history were very interesting and downright fascinating.  WW II era stories are always
of interest to me and this one should have and could have hit all the right notes.  However,  though I liked the idea for this story, the writing was
flat, and the characters flatter.  There was the beautiful, rich, girl who had it all, but wanted to prove to herself and everyone that she was
important and contributing to the war effort.  She spars  through 3/4's of the book with her  ridiculously handsome, rich male counterpart and you
know from the minute the meet that they're going to get it on....Then there's the fiesty, naive young farm girl and the "single" mother....or is she.....
    with a secret.....
I never got a real sense of these characters.....and at times in the story, they actually bothered the heck out of me with their predictability.
But, having said all that, the setting and the real life characters that are popped into the book are great.  I learned a great deal about that time.
those brave souls of the ATA and it got me "googling" all kinds of interesting side things.
