Being Aware in a Changing World
Usually, these types of books are outdated before they reach the bookstand but Rifkin wrote in such a way that it will be worth reading in years to come. The premise, of course, is 'beware the crazy scientists' with the bottom line dollar pushing him/her to make decisions that will permanently change the planet. But, the book takes a balanced, realistic view of biotech's potential for harm. Rifkin states his points, cites credible authors, and projects a future that is in desperate need of moral boundaries. His chapter on how we think and organize information is exceptional. If you buy the book just for this, it's worth it. It does get a bit technical but the non-scientist can understand the concepts. Not light reading but if you are looking for a serious summer book, this would be it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
