A Gateway into a Strange New World

If you haven't heard of Bizarro fiction before, this is a good place to find out about it. The novelettes and stories here range from the deranged to the psychedelic to the whimsical, just as the genre itself does. The ten pieces in here are a great introduction to ten of the finest authors in Bizarro. Carlton Mellick III explores family and sexual obligation in what I think of as a blend of Svankmajer and Clive Barker, Gina Ranalli explores classicism, existentialism and predestination, Andre Duza finds the place where Fulci and Ralph Bakshi meet and it ain't pretty, D. Harlan Wilson provides some thoughtprovoking Kafkaesque short fictions, Vincent Sakowski makes you laugh, cringe and applaud, Bruce Taylor shares stories that will remind you of Ellison, Bradbury and Borges, Jeremy Johnson tells the tale of a man alone in a postapocalyptic wasteland wearing a suit made of cockroaches, Steve Beard tells a story so strange I have no idea what's going on, Kevin Donihe pokes fun at the weight we place on sporting events. All of this for ten bucks. An excellent deal.
