Set in the cold war era, ¿The Black Tulip,¿ by Milt Bearden, is a novel about the CIA¿s involvement in Afghanistan and how they trained and armed the Afghan freedom fighters to fight off the Soviets. The book also goes in detail about the KGB and the under cover CIA agents that worked for them. Milt Bearden was a long time CIA agent and planed out most of the operations in Afghanistan, which adds to the realism of the book. The book has a lot of action, although the author goes off the subject and talks about the KGB and other stuff that doesn¿t really have anything to do with the main subject. Overall the book is interesting and shows how is was dangerous for the Americans to train the Afghan people.
