How can anyone dislike this book because of what holden does wrong, or his attitude, or what he doesn't do. He is an incredibly interesting charachter that a lot of people can relate to. I was blown away with Holden Caulfield. The sarcasm, the sincerity, the hate, the love, the hypocrisy... it was all fun. I loved the whole thing, but when I got to the part about the title of the book, that is one of the biggest rewards i've had from any book. I guess you either love it or hate it based upon your personality type. I'm not sure exactly what personality types we are talking about... but i do know that if you read the first few pages and get hooked then you'll be better off to finish it.Show Less

Caution

This is NOT the book! It's commentary about it. If you download this expecting to read the book, youre SOL.

Anything is better than having to read The Catcher in the Rye!

I have read The Catcher in the Rye and truly did not like the book. The main character is whiny and unlikeable. It is a painful read. I bought the SparkNotes so I wouldn't have to reread the actual book.

    SparkNotes Rock!

SparkNotes is the epitome of a study-guide. Easy to use, fast, and comprehnsive. This product is a God among men, a giant among dwarves, and the one study guide to rule them all. Thank you, SparkNotes, for lending your granduer to my school project on Catcher in the Rye.

Good book? Yes. Great story? So-so.

The Catcher in the Rye. I first bought the book six years ago thinking it would be good. Is it worth bragging about to friends? Not really since your friends will look at you funny as you tell the storyline. However the book is somehow interesting as it is about a trouble maker complaining about life, people, and how seriosly the world can be such a harsh place. I found it more interesting that the little sister becomes someone special that he tries to guide her through rough times. In short. Read the book but do not expect the greatest book.

    good but could be better

I was assigned to read this book for summer homework for an A.P. English class. I was excited when a lot of my friends told me how much they enjoyed the book. I began to read and tried to guess where the book was going. As I kept on reading and eventually finished the book, I never found the point. It didnt make any sense as to what the plot was or how the title came about. I wouldnt recommend this book to many because of the harsh language as well as the fact that it was just plain boring. Because I am being graded on reading this book, I had to force myself to keep on reading. It was a disappointment

    woohoo for my review

I think this book was pretty okay. There were some really nice parts, and the way it's written is decent. I've read more intriguing books in my time, but I'd recommend this book to anyone who seems willing and interested.

I pity the ink that was used to write this book.

This is without a doubt, the WORST book I have ever read. Catcher in the Rye is to literature, as Slug slime is to candy. Holden was a kid with great writing talent, yet he threw it all away because he couldn't let go of the past. He was surrounded by people he loved, yet he shrugged them all off so he could sulk. He drinks, swears, and tries to get in bed with complete strangers. His aura of negativity put me in a lousy mood every time I saw the book. I found it rather hard to feel any form of sympathy for such a pitiful character. Oh, and in the end he doesn't change one bit. Yea...real original...

    A Brilliant Book!

All I can say is that The Catcher in The Rye is my second Bible! I've read it about three times, just because I enjoyed it so much. And every time I read it, I have found new things, that I haven't noticed before. The book is just brilliant and you might have to read it more than once, to see what Salinger was talking about.

Worst book ever in my page

This book bored me to death. Not just that, but the fact that the Kid has major issues. It was dissapointing how the author made this kid describe people and stereotype them. I don't want to know the issues the kid has because there are more important issues than his in the world. The kid is too self centered and puts others down. This shows how people can be stereotypical towards others and not see or give others a chance of what they can offer from the inside not from the outside.Personality is the most important thing not looks. This kid needs to learn a lesson.

Catcher In The Rye is a Catch!

While I was reading Catcher In The Rye, I realized I had fallen in love with Holden Caulfield. I fell in love with his artistic side, and how he needed to be saved. I fell in love with the book, because of its content and because of its call to society and because of its truth and honesty. All mature young adults should read this. Maybe you can find a little bit of Holden in yourself.
