A Good Anthology on Old Norse Literature
This anthology is a bit more specialized for the Old Norse Scholar, but an important one nevertheless. It's not that the writing styles are difficult to understand, but the essays require a strong familiarity with whatever sagas or literature each essay deals with in its analysis (such as Laxdaela saga for Jonna Louis-Jensen's essay or Njal's saga for Carol Clover's.) It has essays from some of the best scholars in the field with a focus on women. It's a great book for those interested in gender and Old Norse literature, and it can offer a great springboard of ideas for anyone writing on women and the sagas. It is a must-have for any Old Norse student's collection (or a constantly checked-out book from the library due to the price). Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
