Live from the BBC!
"The Orb- BBC Sessions 1989- 2001" is an essential listen if you're an Orb fan. Even if you're not an Orb fan, it might be a good palce to start. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
This is of course, as the title suggests, a compilation of some of The Orb's live performances at the BBC studios over just a little more than a decades time. The first track is perhaps the most essential, although not as rare as it used to be. I'm speaking of "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre Of The Ultraworld.(John Peel Session)" which, now that I've heard it, is the definitive version of the song, which appeared on their debut CD in an altered mix without the Pink Floyd samples.
Also, is a fantastic cover of "No Fun" by The Stooges with Dr. Alex Patterson on lead vocals. It actually come off sounding more like a Sex Pistols bootleg.
Speaking of bootlegs, the sound quality is excellent! The recordings coming straight off of the BBC tapes directly from thier mixing boards and subsequently being remastered as well. Everything sounds as clear as if it were a studio recording; but then again that's kinda what it is. It just also happens to have been a live studio recording.
So, it you want some fresh live remixes of The Orb, look no further.
