    About Preparing Storing and Consuming Dried Foods, is a great book for
    anyone who wants to learn practical ways to lose weight, save money,
    preserve foods efficiently, and spice up their recipes. This book is a
    simple read and is organized in a way that is easily understood. Author
    Terri Paajanen goes over and compares: larger and smaller scale
    operations, the more and less practical ways of dehydrating food, and
    the costs of each method. She also compares drying food as a method of
    preserving food, to freezing and canning, and explains why the two are
    insufficient to drying. She teaches every method from using the sun, to
    using an electric dehydrator, and reveals the good and bad aspects of
    each. Terri also has included a chapter full of great recipes to try
    with your dried foods.

    The Complete Guide to Drying Foods At Home is a delightful and basic guide on multiple ways you can dry, store, and consume foods at home. There are multiple ways in which you are able to dry food, and with this book, you can learn them and try it out for yourself in the comfort of your own home. A handful of the recipes are so original, you wouldn’t have guessed some of the foods are something that could be dried in the first place. From fruits and veggies to herbs and nuts, learn how to sundry, air dry, oven dry, and more by reading this comprehensive guide.

    I've been wanting to dry foods for some time now, but had no ide

    I've been wanting to dry foods for some time now, but had no idea where to start. The Complete Guide To Drying Foods At Home is amazing! I learned what types of foods can be dried and how to dry and store them. The book is very comprehensive, especially for a beginner. Those experienced with drying foods would love the recipes. You have to try the recipes!

    Truly seemed like everything I needed to know about drying foods. Who knew there was a special way to dry seaweed? There were things I'd never even heard of before, such as Irish Barm Brack. The book was very thorough and I appreciate the author taking the time to share knowledge with others.

    There are many advantages to drying foods at home, such as saving money by buying in bulk, reducing food waste and keeping your food healthful and nutritious, and as Paajanen goes on to explain, home dehydration is not as difficult as you might think. First you need to decide which method of drying you prefer to use. Some methods, such as sun or oven drying may not be suitable for all foods because of the time the process takes and the exposure to moisture or bacteria. Other options such as using a microwave or a food dehydrator are suitable for just about any food.

    Once you have decided on your method, this book will guide you through the whole range of foods you might want to dry at home. Packed with useful information, it explains not only which the best method for each food is, but also how to prepare the food first, and how long the dehydration process will take. A chapter on storage will help you make sure you keep your dehydrated food fresh and dry until you want to use it.

    If that’s not enough, Paajanen has also created a wide range of delicious recipes you can make with the food you have dehydrated.     Comprehensive guide to drying food

    “The Complete Guide to Drying Foods at Home” by Terri Paajanen is a comprehensive guide on all the ways to dry and store foods. The author covers all types of drying methods: sun drying, air drying, oven drying, food dehydrators, and microwave drying and explains the drawbacks and benefits of each method. But that isn’t all, the author also gives a little history about drying foods, how to properly store it, and using dehydrated foods.

    For those who are just beginners at drying foods and those who have been doing it for a while, this book if for all those in that range. Ms. Paajanen does an excellent job with educating the reader on the history of drying foods, the different methods, proper storage, safety, what can be dried, using dehydrated foods, and she gives a ton of recipes incorporating dried foods.

    One example of a recipe in this book:

    Spiced Apple Leather

    4 apples
    1/2 cup water or apple juice
    1/4 tsp cinnamon
    1/8 tsp cloves

    When she is covering how to dry fruits, vegetables, herbs, bread, nuts, etc., she also gives directions on how to dry them using each method and which method is the best for that item.

    This book will need to be kept on hand in the kitchen as it will be frequently referred to!

    Dehydrate food at home – even without additional equipment to buy
    “The Complete Guide to Drying Foods At Home” is a versatile reference for preserving food through dehydration. Author Terri Paajanen describes in detail the processes of preparing food for dehydration, the different methods of dehydrating food, as well as the proper procedures for storing the food once dried.
    This book is written for the general reader audience, and provides clear step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow. There is an emphasis throughout the book on using what equipment you may already have in your kitchen, allowing anyone with access to sunlight or an oven to prepare their own dried food at home. For those who wish to invest in additional technology, there is a chapter devoted to discussing the most popular food dehydrators and their associated benefits and costs.
    While most people typically use dehydration to store fruit or make beef jerky, Ms. Paajanen introduces the reader to other types of foods that are easily preserved using this process. Vegetables, herbs, grains, bread and seeds are all addressed. In addition, there is a chapter regarding making your own ‘fruit leathers’, otherwise known as ‘fruit roll ups’…without the added sugar!
    As a member of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm, I sometimes receive more fresh produce that I know what to do with each week. Instead of wasting this delicious food, now I know how to dehydrate it for preservation. Sun-dried tomatoes? Now I don’t have to spend a fortune for them at the store. Struggling to use fresh mushrooms before they expire? No more – I will be drying them. Want berries out of season? No problem – I will use my dehydrated berries to add to yogurt or sauces.
    I have experimented with making my own beef jerky before, but didn’t always achieve the right consistency or doneness. Now I know what I was doing wrong, and will try this again! I have also been convinced by reading Ms. Paajanen’s book that I should invest in a commercial cabinet-style dehydrator for the amount of preserving I need to do. I have the counter space, and this way I won’t be tying up my oven for an entire day! 
    There are definitely some more advanced dehydration practices outlined in the book – such as making your own yogurt at home, making ‘leathers’ from yogurt, drying dairy products into powders, etc. I’m not sure I’m up to this level, but I am glad to have a manual to help me should I desire to try these in the future. Knowing how to preserve foods at home is a healthy and cost-effective alternative to commercially preserved foods.
