A good start
Learning is so much easier when someone makes it fun. And that's exactly what author Gail Stein did with The Complete Idiot's Guide to Learning on Your Own. Full of interesting sidebars and great illustrations, I was engaged from the moment I picked this one up.

Not everyone likes this kind of approach. I have friends that disagree with me on the usefulness of this book. Maybe they have a different learning style. If you want something more comprehensive, but with a style that still keeps your "head in the game" you can go with the Learning Spanish Like Crazy program.

If you just need a good overview, though, I would at least give this one a chance. Not everyone wants to live and breathe Spanish or commit a bunch of money and time to it. This is a good way to get your feet wet. If you want to progress further, you can always buy something more advanced.
