    Character, perseverance, determination, generosity

To call this a baseball story is to do the book an injustice. This is the story of a man who has NEVER made an excuse for anything, who has persisted in pursuing his dream when no one would have faulted him for giving up, who has always felt blessed in having this life to lead, who continues to give back unselfishly, who feels that giving anything less than all he had would be insulting those who hadn't made it back from WWII as he had--whole or not. What a great story--not only the playing days of Brissie, but also his life before and since those days!

    War Hero Recaptures a Dream

Lou Brissie from small town South Carolina is a product of textile baseball teams. He shows great potential for the major leagues. Connie Mack becomes a supporter and inspiration. Lou is severely wounded in Italy during the Second World War, but with great courage and a devoted wife finally realizes his dream. The story is a great inspiration. It shows the human spirit at its best. There is plenty of baseball history here for the most ardent fan, but you do not need to be a baseball fan to enjoy this wonderful book.

Can't put this book down, When will I sleep!!

I just received this book yesterday on arriving home from a long day at work. I read a couple of chapters and went to bed but I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about the book and had to read some more. I must finish reading the book tonight or I will never sleep. Lou Brissie is amazing!!! It is incredible what he overcame to succeed, it really helps me to put any small challenges I may face in life into perspective. Awesome story, I can't wait for the movie.

Thanks Mr. Berkow for this wonderful book!

I am not half way finished reading this book and feel that I can not put it down. It is a story that has and will continue to be inspirational in my life and it is told by the author in a way that makes me believe that anything is possible and that you should never give up and always reach for the best in yourself. Thanks! Love this book.
