    Hero is a jerk

I love stories with strong Italian heroes but the hero,Dante is the most egotistical, blackmailing, self-righteous, narcisstic SOB in modern "romance" times. I still am in shock that the author did not give Dante any good attributes; so the reader could understand why Beth (heroine) melted and became a pile of mush when he forced himself on her. He expected her to jump on his constant demands. He put her in jail when she was still a teen, she served time, found a good job and made something of her life but he still demanded her to move, threatened to hurt the man who helped her and told her to quit her job. Then he grabs her and she melts and after 29 years of saving herself - she can't help his sexual power, and immediately looses her virginity. WHAT A CROCK!
I love harlequin romance stories but this was not a love story. This was the most humiliating put down to women and to think a woman wrote this! The only thing the author did right was to give the HERO? - the right kind of career of - LAWYER.
I own over 2,000 harlequins and this was one of the worst.

I could have really liked this

I've read similar storylines about the girls who fall for the lawyer that got them put in jail and liked them...but this one totally lost me. I get the whole...my lust is clearly overruling my better judgement thing but he comes off as a complete JERK! I'm reminded of a line from Scandal where Oliva Pope tells her boyfriend that he has labeled her a criminal, a whore, an idiot, and a liar all in the last five minutes! That's basically what the hero does here. His epiphany about her true character is also more than a little contrived. The problem with writing about people who go to jail is how to maintain their ingenue while at the same time having had them pick up the rough exterior required to survive in prison. The author hasn't really done a good job with that balance. I give it a B-/C+ but only for the suprise ending.

    Agree

I agree. Dante had no right to treat her the way he did. Beth served her sentence, for a crime she did not commit!!! She became a productive member of society!! Dante blackmailed her at every turn! She should have had a restraining order out on him. How dare he treat her like that! How could she have allowed it!! How could she have loved him? Wow, terrible premise.

    Hero is a bully!

She asked so many times for him to leave her alone, but he kept pushing himself on her. He was a big bully and she should have called the cops.
