This book is very detailed, for it's length, without sacrificing readbility. My only problem with it is the author's dwelling on the negative aspects of Britain's Empire. This is correct but does harm to reader's like the previous reviewer. All cultures/nations/peoples etc, after coming to dominate another, do terrible things. The truly big diffeence between the British Empire and other empires or groups having power over other groups is the relative benigness of the British. It is of course relative, and it is important that we look at the good and bad in all aspects of history. The trouble comes when an author portrays the actions of a particular group as being uniquely bad; this means, in modern writing, the West. A person not casting their net wide could come to the conclusion that the West is unique in cruelty and injustice. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Buy and enjoy this book, but please keep in mind what I've written above. Better yet, study other Empires and peoples outside of the Western tradition.
