UPLIFTING AND INSPIRING
This book was the answer that I was looking for when my dog was first diagnosed with cancer. I was so devastated and I felt like my world had just caved in. I have 2 beautiful black Great Danes and they will be eleven years old in April. They are my ONLY children and I cannot imagine life without them. Years ago, I had another big beautiful Great Dane(age 6) who also had bone cancer. The options were amputation and the outcome was bleak. I would never consider amputation for a dog that size so I was given pain killers and her quality of life was not good the last few weeks. I will always feel guilty for not being able to do more for my baby. This book had given me different options and a different outlook. I no longer consider cancer an immediate death sentence. It's been a month and a half and the suggestions Dr. Dressler offers seem to be working. My baby has stopped limping and she actually is active, playful and happy. Her quality of life is good and it has given me hope. This book has sections about the different types of cancers, different treatment options, how to grieve, coping with loss and nutritional information just to name a few. There are real life stories which are so moving that I cried while reading them. I would recommend this book to anyone who is being affected by cancer or preparing themselves for life without their beloved companions. This book is not only informative but it is uplifting and inspiring. I thank Dr. Dressler for his dedication!

Thank God I found this book
When my beloved Mickey got the dreaded diagnosis of mast cell cancer in March, I spent days on the internet looking for everything I could find. I kept coming back time and time again to Dr. Dressler's Dog Cancer blog. Between the blog and the first edition of his Survival Guide, it was the best information I could find from a very trustworthy source. That is why I was quick to get the Nook version of the second edition of the Dog Cancer Survival Guide when it came out this week. All I can say is "WOW!" This is really well done, very comprehensive and covers lots of specific cancers. (and looks great on my Nook--which I can't always say is the case with some ebooks) Having a vet oncologist as a co-author is a really nice addition, because Dr. Ettinger offers a different voice and different perspective on some things. It is very empowering that I as the reader get all the info and can decide what is best for my dog. The book has really helped me formulate a plan that is just right for our situation. Whatever happens in the end, I am so happy that I had this Survival Guide.
