    I Also Recommend:

A Superb Novel! - you will not regret reading "The Flames of Rome".

This novel blew my socks off! It kept me on the edge of my seat; Paul Maier does an excellent job of pulling the reader into the middle of the action and allowing them to become emotionally invested with the characters, while still maintaining the rich historical backround. The novel surrounds Titus Flavius Sabinus, Prefect of Rome and "friend of God", as he tries to preserve righteousness, honor, and "the cause" against the debauched, and ridiculous Emperor Nero. The novel also paints the spread of Christianity and the emergence of the Roman Church in a favorable light.
If you enjoyed The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers, you will enjoy The Flames of Rome even more. I acheived a better understanding of Ancient Rome and of Christianity through reading this book. I cannot praise this novel enough. I highly reccomend it to all historians, Christians, and those simply looking for an excellent read.

    Couldn't put it down!

It started in the bookstore as I was browsing for another Francine Rivers book to lose myself in. I came across a title that sounded interesting to me - Flames of Rome. The author captures interest from the first page and holds it all the way to the end. I finished the 400+ page book in 2 days because it was just to wonderful to put down. I learned so much about Nero and the things that shaped his life. How and why he persecuted Christians and how in the beginning of his rule he wasn't such a bad person. It's truly amazing! Once you pick up this book and start to read, you too will be drawn into it's grasp until the final page.

    Wonderful

This book takes all the facts presented in the New Testament and all the verifiable facts from Roman historians of the era, and presents life as it was during the reign of Nero and the start of the Christain persecutions.
