    Lackluster

Margot Livesey is a talented writer; there is no denying it. I found no fault with her voice or skills.
For me, reading The Flight of Gemma Hardy resulted in little joy and self-talk that went something like
this: "I really need to finish this book so I can move on to a better one and reach my reading goal for
    the year."

Did I find something objectionable or annoying? Not really. The character of Gemma Hardy frustrated
me to a degree. Her naiveté in the face of everything she witnessed confounded me, but not enough
to urge her to make different decisions. This girl goes through some really hard times, none of which
moved me. In fact, I felt very little for any of the characters.

The story simply moved forward. Yes, there were plot twists, revelations, challenges and triumphs.
Each were lackluster and almost predictable. Maybe if I'd connected with the characters my
    impressions would be more favorable.
