GREAT WORK DEFINES NEW MILLENNIUM CULTURE
Thomas Berry reaches the height of his vast religious and scientific understanding--as well as his poetic and accurate technical expression--in THE GREAT WORK, essays which creatively express our relationship to the universe. 'What's good for the meadow' became Berry's personal formulation of the helping role human beings must play and offers it (or a similar formulation related to our unique childhood experiences with nature) as the standard we must adopt if we are to survive. With deep love and an ability to summarize complex, interwoven subjects, Berry insists that the great work of the Millennium is to stay in relationship with nature and cease our mindless extraction, consumption, and waste. He left me rethinking my responsibilities as a member of the beloved Earth community. It's as if he guided me up the side of a huge mountain and then showed me a vista I never dreamed existed. I have no words to express my wonder and appreciation for his lifetime of devotion to the truth.
