I'm fairly new into the world of John Coltrane's music. Though he died in 1967, aged 40, his time on earth brought revolution in jazz and in the method of playing the tenor saxophone. His genius is unparalled, and this set here is the deal of the month. This is the second volume in what looks to be a three volume series of releases of Coltrane's original albums on the Impulse label. There are no bonus tracks to disrupt the original order of the songs. Some may be bothered by this. However, the albums here are magnificent and pristinely remastered from the original tapes. The contents of the set are: "John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman", "Impressions", "Live At Birdland", "Crescent", and "A Love Supreme". These are all wonderful albums, with "...Coltrane & ...Hartman" and "A Love Supreme" being two of the finest albums of the 1960's. The original liner notes ae reproduced as well from the original alums. You may need a magnifying glass to read them however. That's the only complaint I have of this set, which I consider an essential purchase. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
