I first read this story when I was twelve. My father had just finished it, and passed it on to me. Sure, it's a little crazy at times, but in some strange way it is something of a love story.
There's a deep sense of loss and longing surrounding the main character. Kinsella uses the book as a way to reaffirm his passion for baseball. He even uses the game's lack of timekeeping and the fact that fair territory is infinite as plot devices. I have always loved this book. If you love baseball, you will love this book.

    Worst baseball book ever

For those of you looking for another 'Shoeless Joe' keep looking. This book is slow. When it gets to the 2,000 inning baseball game it gets crazy. Picture a statue playing first base, a 50 foot indian ghost killing players via lightening, the town flooding, and pitchers intentionally killing batters so the game won't end and you've got total mayhem! Don't waste time on this one. Move on !

    Vivid, insipiring

'The Iowa Baseball Confederacy' is one of the best books I have ever read. I decided to check it out a few years ago, and I've read it over and over since then. I picked it up because I love baseball, but you don't have to even like baseball to like this book. It has elements of science fiction, fantasy, a love story, action, everything. I'd recommend it to anybody, it's a great book :)
