I tried to like this book, I really did. Good concept, compelling (at least at first glance) lead character. Followed by--as soon as you've read past the requisite few chapters required for a book proposal, I would swear--an unbelievably rapid decline into banality, unpleasantness, and sheer boredom. I found myself skipping 50, 80 pages at a time, desperately trying to get to the end. Which, when I arrived, turned out to be exactly what I thought. Superficial dialogue, one-dimensional characters, and a main character "Lady Kate" who continually lies about stupid things for apparently the sole reason of putting herself into cringingly and completely unfunny situations makes 2 stars a generous rating for this book.
