Still the funniest book I ever read

I was a young teen when I came across this in paperback in the 1960s. I have read it countless times since. I was still holding on to my beaten up, falling-apart, rubber-banded copy when I found this hardcover reissue, (which will last through the many more readings it will surely get). It has lost nothing in the intervening years; in fact the dated references make it even funnier, and since I now understand some references I didn't on first reading, I like it even more. I have just wrapped two copies for gifts, and will be purchasing another for myself. I have read with appreciation other books by this author but nothing can top this one. If you like to laugh, you deserve to give yourself this book. Witty commentary on everything from bogus traditions, silly fashion fads, and classism to psychiatry.

    My favorite book is BACK!

This is the book that I would take to a desert island with me. Since the 60's it has remained my very favorite book and always a guaranteed giggle. How wonderful to be able to buy new copies and share them during this holiday season...

One of the best "feel good" books ever!

Whenever life has me down I always turn to this book to cheer me up-and it always does. This book is a masterpiece of comedy as it shows us the characters of high-society New York through the eyes of a precocious eleven year old. Particularly funny is Mrs. Reynolds, who is even more amusing if you picture her as a shorter version of our decade's own over-zealous domestic maven (Martha Stewart).
