The Laird is jilted at the altar!
The wealthy bride ran off with the brother of Lady Lucy MacMorlan whose erotic love letters that she penned for him did the trick. After the tragic death of her twin in childbirth (out of wedlock) – a secret she guards, Lucy has decided never to marry. But she’s beautiful, brainy, charming, yes wealthy, etc., etc., and a furious Robert Methven is determined to make her his. Robert has his own personal challenges and a beloved sibling who died, but he does need – for the people on his lands to be well looked after– to fulfill requirements of an ancient contract, to marry and SOON or else the evil, traitorous, dastardly Angus gets all! I liked the characters because they had character, the budding romance, the pluck of Lucy who can ride, wield a mean sword, manage an estate, etc., etc. HOWEVER, despite all my praise, I doubt I’d want to read Cornick's book again.
