A gem of heartache and truthfulness.

Once in a blue moon, luck sides with a reader. For years I've been waiting for a story with the capability of pulling me in completely. In the past when I finished a book, I had the feeling many readers fear: disappointment. I've never been lucky, but stumbling upon 'The Linnet Bird' was one of the rare times. After the first few pages, I knew the book to be a true find. Immediately, I became immersed in Linny's story. As her life progressed, I felt myself experiencing something of the same emotions as she. I was in the story enough to feel heartache due to the hardships and despair Linny endured. Conversely, I felt a sense of pride at her courage and perseverance. I was joyful when fate made small appearances in Linny's life. But all the while, it was Linny who created her own destiny. It was a long and trying road, in the deepest of meaning. I marvel at the author's talent to make Linny's words so felt, so truthful. In Linny's world, you are in the darkest and scariest of places. More importantly, you also discover the essence of the human spirit. At the end of this moving novel, I felt nothing alike to disappointment. Maybe in some small way I did. I was sad for the end to have come. But all and all, I left a piece of me in those pages where Linny lived.

    MY NEW ALLTIME FAVORITE READ!!!

Ms. Holeman grabs you in the first chapter and never lets go. I took this book on vacation and finished it in two days. Her vivid description of characters is remarkable, and will have you feeling their heartbreak and joy. By far my favorite book to date!!! Can't wait to read more of her novels.

    Riveting

I could not put this book down. It was one of the best I have ever read. It brought me to tears so many times. I could feel the pain, the heat, the misery the author was put into words. It was as if I were living the story.

    Excellent Read

I was immensely satisfied with this book. It is a page turner that keeps you intrigued one chapter after another. I found it hard to put down...I recently loaned it to a male friend and he is equally satisfied. I do hope Ms. Holeman writes more adult age books.

    Great book

Just finished this book and have to say its one of the best I've ever read. The author really grips you with the story so that you never want to stop reading. There's never any down time - the story flows so well. The story line is a bit mature for teens, but well worth the read for anyone else
