A Wonderful Book for Many Reasons
The "Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci" was mentioned in an essay I read as a way to increase ones memory ability. It indeed did that for me but probably more important was the insight it offered on the life in China in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. And coupled with this was the description of the world of a small enclave of Jesuits (of whom Matteo Ricci was one) sent to China with the aim of converting the population to Christianity. Was this review helpful? Adding to the enjoyment of the book is marveling at the amazing amount of research that the author, Jonathan Spence accomplished. The facts presented did not disturb the flow of the story. Rather they enhanced it.
