The Music of Smash [Original TV Soundtrack]

3.4 5

NBC's musical-within-a-musical TV series Smash was often called "Glee for grown-ups," and while the comparison rang true in many ways, Smash made a name for itself with mostly original songs instead of borderline-kitschy versions of established hits. The last song of the series is NOT on this soundtrack. Why not? It's h the best of any and should be on it.

You all must remember Katherine McPhee (Karen) from American Idol so you know she can sing, but Megan Hilty (Ivy) - wow - she is a shockingly great singer from ??? gosh knows where has she been hiding, and I personally think she steals the show! Karen and Ivy are both vying to play Marilyn Monroe in a play on Broadway. I have been waiting impatiently for the release of the soundtrack since I began watching Smash. I really love the show's premise, which allows these two singers to showcase their singing talent both on stage and in their lives, so the music is a mix of show-type tunes a la Marilyn Monroe days and songs that suit today. I think this album is a great showcase of Katherine and Megan's talents.
