    A Wonderful New Oz Story

I am a big Roger S. Baum fan. All of his books have added to the Oz collection. Readers will find this an exciting book with new characters and a wonderful plot twist. This is a fresh Oz story that will bring joy to all Oz fans. I understand he is writing a 2nd volume to the Odyssey, I for one can hardly wait. I understand a movie production company has just acquired the rights. What more can we say.

Oz Odyssey... more like Lame Oz afternoon walk

I received Roger S. Baum's new Oz book The Oz Odyssey this Christmas and immediately read it. The binding and dust cover are an excellent touch to this edition and Victoria Seitzinger's illustrations are marvelous. The overall layout of the book is spectacular. It looks beautiful and professional. Although, problems arise in the book's actual content. The story of The Oz Odyssey is undeveloped and short. The thin plot is really a variation of previous elements in Roger Baum's previous Oz novels such as L. Frank Baum's apperance is reminescent to that seen in Roger Baum's Green Star of Oz. Characters and events are introduced at random without any explaination of their being placed in the story. And when there is an interesting character or moment in the story it ends abruptly, leaving the reader disappointed. Near the beginning of the book, there is a note concerning inconsistencies between the Oz stories. They exist and in no way 'subtract from the many adventures.' Although, this book does subtract from the many adventures. It seems to have been thrown together to make a near publication date. The book's title is a misnomer for it surely is too short to be an Odyssey. The lack of story and character development creates a lack of warmth and familiarity with Oz that leaves a sour taste in the readers mouth. It may only be a children's book but surely it could be a whole lot better.
