Short, but good
"The Pack, Prelude" is a very quick look at the individual character of David. It provides some necessary backstory that in not included elsewhere.
In "The Pack, Issue 1 of 3", David attends his Father's funeral. There he meets the new male student. "Prelude" allows us access to David's memories of the events that lead to each of his parents' deaths. It is very short but informative.
I sincerely appreciate when an author gives the reader some extras. Especially, when these insights into essential characters, cannot be found elsewhere. I would love to see more special issues that provide additional background information for all of the major players in "The Pack" series. In my opinion, it enhances my enjoyment of the overall experience of a series.
The art is in the same style, and full color, found in "Issue 1". The color is used brilliantly. In this vignette, the changing expressions contrasts with the blood to great effect. It would not have affected me so much, if it were solely black and white.
I was duly impressed with the artwork, design, and story. The dialogue, though appropriate, was lacking. To the point, I needed to read and pay for "Issue 1" (sight unseen) based on this free sample. That is rare, indeed, for me.
The storyline of "Prelude" is dark, and somewhat gory. It is not for young children. However, it is free. So, if you like to read fantasy horror graphic novels, then you should read this short comic first. Then, proceed on with the rest of the series.
