The dialects in this book were not chosen at random - this is actually how people spoke in those days. In fact, I researched the point of origin of every major character and tailored their accent accordingly. It's the same process that Mark Twain used while writing his books, except that it came naturally to him, while I am 150 years removed from it and had to analyze every single word and phrase. If the excessive use of dialect gets in the way of the narrative, then I apologize. My goal was to write a work that absolutely felt like it was written in the early 19th century, and in that I believe I succeeded.
