    I Also Recommend:

    Highly Recommended!!

This self published author never lets his readers down. With The Rise of the Red Shadow, Joseph Lallo gives his readers an indepth look into the enigmatic character Lain. Mr. Lallo tells Lain's story from childhood, a grim story for such a young character. You learn how Lain becomes the powerful, skilled assassin he is today in The Book of Deacon trilogy. Along the way, you may cringe, shudder, or even weep at what Lain goes through. There is laughter, love, and friendships that beautfully balance this novel against the darkness. Add magic, dragons, and this a definite win. Very well written, and helps readers fully understand how Lain came to be who he is.

Excellent read, with some very moving scenes in the development of the main character. A worthy addition to the Book of Deacon series, which I'll now want to read again.

A great book.  I have read the Deacon books and enjoyed them.  I was always curious about the Lian.
The growth of his character in this book is thoughtful while all he endures is pain.  An amazing building of
This character.  I would love to see a sequel to this.

    Very interesting

kept my interest through the whole book. Since the Shadow carries on to the next book, The Book of Deacons (1st in trilogy) I can hardly wait to get started. I have all of the trilogy already.

    O. M. G.

The transformation that Lain makes is an incredible thing to witness. He starts off with the qualities of a hero, but gradually you see him burry thos things deep within himself. Lain in the end is exactly who you would expect him to become after the journey he takes. FREAKING LOVE YOU LAIN.

    Hard to put down

Though down trodden and seemingly unloved a large portion of his life, he becomes a fighter for freedom giving up true love. One of those books that always has something happening, making it hard to put down.

    Another great Lallo book

I could not wait to read this and now am sad it is over. It held many surprises that I didn't expect from a prequel. I laughed and enjoyed it thoroughly. Loved the new characters. The only thing wrong with it is that it is over much to soon. Lallo writes big books that draw you through until the end. Don't start reading if you have to get up early!
