Despite one of the selling points for this being a ┬┐how-to guide

Despite one of the selling points for this being a “how-to guide” for hitting the road, I found it to be more of a chicken soup for the punk/drifter/gypsy soul. While the obvious draw is the contributors being some of the big names I grew up with in independent and punk music, some of the best pieces are by self-admitted vagabonds and others like promoters, hotel (or tour) managers and the likes. This is a quick read, as each piece is only 1-3 pages in length. Some entries are lists of do’s and don’ts, and some are quick tips. Still others are exactly as the promotional hoopla puts it: anecdotes. In the end, the whole work is fun, but if I could ask for more out of this, it would be simply that: more. The pieces seem a little short, and it would be exciting to hear the specific stories to which these travelers are referring. I guess the book succeeds in keeping me from living vicariously through the contributors and, instead, hitting the road for myself. The high point, for me as a fan and reader, is seeing how the artists’ own personality (those I’ve come to know through their music) radiate their personality in their individual additions to the book. HIT THE ROAD! -hoagiebait
