The themes in this book are not adult ones, but universal. This rich combination of real life issues and make-believe magic is perfect for kids and adults alike. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Agree with previous review.
I agree with the previous reviewer. There are way too many adult topics and curse words for this age range. My daughter checked out this book from her school library. I couldn't belive it is meant for children. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I purchased this book, and several others in the Magic Shop series, for my 9 year old daughter. I read customer reviews when looking at new series. The first sevral books seemed fine when I scanned through them so I gave them to her. The Skull of Truth was a great disappointment. Bruce Colville's character - Uncle Bennie - admits that he is gay and has a boyfriend. He hid the truth because he thought no one would understand. This is not a topic for children in grades 4 - 6. Regardless of my personal beliefes regarding homosexuality, it is not appropriate to introduce this to children. Authors and publishing companies believe they can add curse words and adult topics and parents won't notice. This is the last Bruce Colville book my children will read. Was this review helpful? Bruce Coville. THE SKULL OF TRUTH. Harcourt Brace & Company, 1997
In The SKULL OF TRUTH Charlie Eggleston a young boy who steals a human skull from a store. When Charlie figures out that the skull is cursed and it can talk, he fears the worst. Because of the curse, Charlie is forced to tell the truth. Charlie goes through many adventures to get threw this curse and get rid of the skull. Along the way, he must help the skull in return. Charlie Eggleston is a brave character. He also lies about a lot of things. Such as were is goes after school or were he is going at 10:00 at night. But when he finds himself in danger he goes on an adventure to get himself out of the situation, while also helping the skull along the way by getting the skull back home to were he originally came from. So Charlie¿s character is really adventurous character. Bruce Coville seems to know how to bring suspense to a story he shows a lot of supernatural conflicts and things. Such as he has a talking skull that belonged to a murdered man I think he does a great job as an author. The book was great and it will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you want to read more. Because Charlie goes on an adventure trying to get the skull back home. THE SKULL OF TRUTH is a great book that keeps suspense high so I really recommend reading the book because it¿s great! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
