Pamela D Rice's novel _The Sunday Morning Wife_ deals with domestic violence in what should be the perfect home. The main character, Yolanda, is married to the head minister of a large successful charismatic church. While he puts on airs that all is well at home, he comes home and repeatedly abuses his wife mentally, emotionally, and physically. This is a disturbing story which unfortunately is all too real.

Stories of domestic violence are not new to the literary stage. However, Rice places emphasis on the internal struggle of Yolanda to protect herself and the guilt associated with being a victim. This is for me where the greatest value in this book lies. All too often people outside of the violence assume that one could and should just walk away. But they do not realize how being dehumanized causes the victim to devalue herself and saps the strength out of her. Living day to day is the victim's greatest worry, leaving seems an impossible task. Rice successfully shows readers this struggle, and I hope enlightens them to this particular aspect of domestic violence.

Rice's prose reads easily and draws the reader into this disturbing world. She shows how easily violence can be hidden, and ignored by others, and how difficult it is to end it.

    I Also Recommend:

    A bonafide page turner!

This book will not let you down! It is filled with Romance and Suspense! The characters are so well written that you will feel like they are real. The subject matter is very serious, but the message of forgiveness, prayer, hope, love and faith is inspiring! It was really hard to stop reading this book. I could hardly wait to see what the characters would do next.I will purchase more books from this author.

You never know what people are going through...

I finished reading my copy of this book this weekend and it was really really good. The flow was good, the storyline with the twists and turns were unbelievable. The way the author didn't drag out events in the book and went straight into them was great. I hate reading a book and having to flip thru pages to get to the good part. I certainly didn't have to do that with this book; I couldn't wait to read what was on the next page. After completing the book, I went back and read certain parts again just to reflect on what the author had wrote. Although this book is not based on a true story, the author captivated your mind with such a real yet unbelievable situation that makes you think. It leaves you wondering many things: 1-You never know what people are going through behind closed doors. 2-People are not always who they portray themselves as being. 3-If you are in a relationship, what's your place...1,2,3? 4-Who do we rely on the most in time of need. And finally, 5-If we just be patient, things will work themselves out. All I can say is WOW!!! And I can't wait for book #2...
