Writer lost focus...
I am a Fannie Flagg reader, craving for more of that syle of writing....This book started out with a the same flare of Flagg but dropped off into the 'sad' repetitive, predictiable writing of Danielle Steel, which is a big disappointment for me. I found myself skipping pages(without missing a thing) eventually just reading the last chapter to get it over with...I think the writer is on her way...find a writing style and stick to it...

Unusual and engaging...
Lorna Landvik drew me into this story with her quirky characters and story line. This book was different than any other I've read. Her characters are wildly interesting and her tale is funny and touching - a must-read for those looking for an entertaining story.

an iowa girl loved it!
This was such an enjoyable story;keeps you laughing 'til you cry, and crying 'til you laugh. I felt the cast of quirky characters were believable even though they were at times far-fetched. Oh yeah eh~ it's a good one!

The Tall Pine Polka of Fun
The Tall Pine Polka is one of the best books I've read in a long time! Lorna Landvik has a way of connecting the audience to the character's in the story. The description Lorna uses of Tall Pine, to the readers, makes you want to go visit. The story shows the true relationships of love and friendship. You'll meet unusual and unforgettable characters. When you're in the need for fun... The Tall Pine Polka is the one.

Review excerpt from Curled Up With a Good Book
Lorna Landvik won legions of devoted readers with her debut novel, PATTY JANE'S HOUSE OF CURL, and kept them with YOUR OASIS ON FLAME LAKE. She's likely to delight her fans again with THE TALL PINE POLKA, which has more than a few things in common with her earlier novels: Landvik returns to her beloved small-town Minnesota setting, the action centers on a friendly gathering place (where the title 'dance' routinely takes place), and the story is about the bittersweet bonds between women. A novel divided in tone, it's light-hearted and funny throughout the first half, tragic and more darkly humorous in the second part, like a sunny day at the lake turning ominous as thunderheads move in over placid waters. That a relationship like Lee and Fenny's can survive such a string of betrayals may seem overly optimistic, but friendship and love can run as deep as a feud in the forced proximity inherent in small-town life. The offbeat characters who people the rest of Tall Pine provide a comforting cushion for Fenny and Lee to fall back on; that may be the greatest small-town truth in Landvik's third novel.
