Editorial ReviewsReviewAlmost every chapter of this collection taught me something new, about a book that I thought I understood very well. -- Rabbi Jack Riemer, Jewish Journal South Florida, September 2006From the PublisherThis book was created from transcripts of remarkable lectures on themes in Samuel put forth by amazing teachers. In the essays, we sought to preserve the informal, idiosyncratic, passionate, and charming styles of the lecturers. The Hebrew texts are included inside the book... with translation, so that the reader may study comfortably even if caught without a Hebrew bible for reference. It's already there! We plan for this book to be the first of a series.
From the AuthorIt is a particular pleasure to thank all the outstanding teachers and scholars who agreed to share their presentations with us and incorporate their work into this companion volume to the Book of Samuel. It is and always has been a pleasure to work with this roster of individuals, which reads as a veritable Who's Who of the top teachers of Bible in our community today.
From the Inside FlapBible study in the spirit of modern and open Orthodox Judaism. Master teachers explore key themes, characters, and episodes in 13 insightful essays that bring the book to life.
From the Back CoverEach year, at the study days organized by the Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School, hundreds of teachers and lay people listen in rapt attention to modern Orthodox Judaism's most learned and engaging Bible teachers. The lectures span the range of Biblical books, always addressing the questions: What does this text really mean? What is the eternal message we are to learn from it?
This volume, the first of a new series, brings to the written page a selection of lectures on the Book of Samuel first presented at the YCT study days.
