Review originally posted at Romancing the Book

Poor Gail, she’s just not having a very good life. She dislikes her stepfather, and isn’t overly happy with her mother either, but it gets worse when they gang up on her and tell her that she needs to break up with Kelvin, her best friend and boyfriend of seven years.

See, Gail’s only 14 – Kelvin is 16 – and they’ve been together since Kindergarten. She has no other friends, just him and her brother Garry – she leans on them to help her through everything. Without him, she thinks she has no one else to talk to…to be her friend.

I think all insecure teenage girls should read this book as it teaches a valuable lesson in how to stand on your own and realize that maybe, just maybe us parents know what we’re talking about. What is comfortable isn’t always best – sometimes you need to step out of your comfort zone, expand your horizons, and try something new; something on your own for once.
